Human Backbone Structure


    The vertebral column, also Familiar as the backbone or spine, is part of the axial frame.   The vertebral column is the connotation characteristic of a spinal, in which the notochord receive in all chordates has been replaced by a divide series of bones—vertebrae divide by under-vertebral  discs.The vertebral column houses the spinal canal, a cavity that protects and  surrounds the spinal cord.      


Cervical (neck) - the main verb of the cervical spine is to clinch the weight of the head (about 9-10 pounds). The seven cervicals vertebrae are numbered C1 to C7. The neck has the most range of motion because of two expert vertebrae that connect to the cranium. The first vertebral bone (C1) is the ring-shaped atlas that connects straight to the skull. This collective allows for the nodding or “yes” motion of the head. The second vertebra (C2) is the peg-shaped axis, which has a jut called the odontoid, that the atlas pivots near. This joint allows for the side-to-side or “no” motion of the head.

Thoracic (mid back) - the main verb of the thoracic spine is to hold the rib cage and defend the heart and lungs. The twelfth thoracic vertebral bone are numbered T1 to T12. The range of motion in the thoracic spine is determinate.

Lumbar (low back) - the main verb of the lumbar spine is to bear the weight of the full body. The five lumbar vertebrae are numbered L1 to L5. These vertebral bone are much larger in size to absorb the stress of lifting and carrying heavy matter.
